Soil Maintenance Is The Key To A Healthy Garden – 7 Rules You Should Follow

I do not know about you, but I like it enormously when I go through the villages and see the locals how they work in their own gardens. Soil provides the “key” to plant health in the garden, as well as their vitality. Soil quality does not only affect plant health but also the time you spend in the garden. Just for you, the hard-working gardener with your own garden of vegetables to feed your family, I have prepared this article about everything that the soil maintenance process requires. More precisely, 7 rules you should follow for a high-quality soil and vegetables.

Ideal soil should provide a hospitable environment for plants in combination with air, water, and nutrients. But the ideal combination, a combination balanced with alluviums, sand, and clay, can not be found by all gardeners.

Even those who succeed in starting a good soil must improve it regularly because the soil changes its properties over time and due to the weather.

Observe the following indications in your soil care activity and chech out these 7 rules you should follow up with

1. First: Find out what PH your soil has

If it’s not clear to you, I come with a start-up statement: PH is a unit of measure that identifies the concentration of hydrogen ions in an aqueous liquid. As the soil contains water, it is concluded that it should be divided into three major categories (according to this PH): acid, neutral and alkaline. There are, therefore, the following soils: acidic and slightly acidic (ph 4,5-6 / 6,5), neutral (ph 6,5 – 7,2) and alkaline (ph 7,2 – 8). Now you are probably wondering why this PH is so important?

Because the type of soil identified influences how the substances needed for good plant/vegetable development are absorbed.

2. Feed your plants naturally

The discussion about what we actually eat today is becoming more and more fierce. We are no longer sure of anything. That’s why it’s preferable when you think about arranging your own garden to consider how you can help vegetables grow.

Most soils do not need fertilizer, but fertilization is said to help you get a richer crop. If you decide that you want to give a helping hand to the plant, it is advisable to use the natural fertilizer. The best solution is the remains of domestic animals that have started rotting.

This is also very useful in the attempt to combat pests. A layer of 4-5 cm sprinkled over the land where you planted the vegetables takes away the weeds and other hazards that could affect the fruits of your work. As you can see, maintenance of a garden is not at all as it seems at first glance, but the satisfaction is right!

3. In the long run, it is better to feed the land, not only the plants

– feed the soil every season or every time you plan a planting activity using organic materials such as compost, or chopped leaves;

4. Do not dig up when the soil is too wet or too dry, this affects the health of the soil;

5. When and how it is best to wet vegetables

Perhaps for lack of time or simply out of ignorance, I have seen enough garden owners sprinkling the leaves of vegetables in the evening. I do not recommend, for the following reasons:

– Watering of vegetables in the afternoon and evening favors the emergence of diseases

– the right watering process is not to use a sprinkler, as we have seen, but to use a hose with which to feed the plant directly to the root!

Here I will also like you to remember the usefulness of plant seeds among vegetables, also in the idea of banishing the pests. Plants like blues, salvia, bush, sunflower, or daisy attract insects that can help you get rid of enemies of your vegetable culture.

6. Do not walk on layers; Passing over compact soil prevents air, water and nurturing substances from feeding plants;

7. Avoid over-cultivation; excessive digging destroys the structure of the soil making it a powder or a very hardened soil.
